Clearly, this is the crux of the matter.
This would certainly give us pause for thought.
Or how about this
Data from the General Social Survey indicated that in the Pacific region, 22.5% of households have at least one gun (Data from Hemenway, a notable anti, but he usually doesn't make mistakes at this level...). Data is averaged for 1988-1997. According to the 2000 census, California had 11,502,870 households; 22.5% of that is 2,588,146. IF California gun ownership is substantially like all the states included in the PAC region, AND the GSS is a decent measure - and it seems to be the best available - then about two and a half million gun owners seems like a reasonable minimum guess. Multiple people in a household may own guns. Some households with guns may not report that ownership, either through error (the person answering the question actually did not know about any guns; this does happen - it's about the only conclusion I've ever seen from Cook/Ludwig I believe) or choice.
gleaned from this thread.
So all I need is 700,000 gun owners to do a tiny bit of work and 4 million to vote... ain't gone a happen on the above figures.
So, what do you think?
California gun owners are fragmented, all mouth and no bite, happy to bitch and moan but too fat and lazy to do anything?
I think we have reason to be optimistic despite the above.
Thinking about this and how the same thing happened in England and Australia really makes me angry. I read the "gunnies" forums where they laugh and joke about PRK and how they left the state to go elsewhere to be real men trusted with guns. Bullshit! Real men go to where the battle is the fiercest, where the lines need to be reinforced. Retreat and seek a "Free State Project" is not going to win the war. Sure it makes things better for you personally for a short time. But what about your kids or your grandkids? When your precious free state is encircled by "Peoples Republiks" and the Feds are falling from above what are they going to do? Are people so dumb and stupid that they can't see this history repeating again and again.
They can all parrot the famous quotes
First they came for the Communists and I did not speak out - because I was not a Communist. Then they came for the Socialists and I did not speak out - because I was not a Socialist. Then they came for the trade unionists and I did not speak out - because I was not a trade unionist. Then they came for the Jews and I did not speak out - because I was not a Jew. Then they came for me and there was no one left to speak out for me.
or
If you will not fight for the right when you can easily win without bloodshed, if you will not fight when your victory will be sure and not so costly, you may come to the moment when you will have to fight with all the odds against you and only a precarious chance for survival. There may be a worse case. You may have to fight when there is no hope of victory, because it is better to perish than to live as slaves
but what are you actually going to do about it?
Don't tell me things, "from my cold dead fingers," what action are you actually going to take! I'm telling you what I'm doing right here in the trenches in California, what are you doing?
